SPRING '17

SPRING ’17

THE COLLECTION

No matter where you come from, it is the rebellious individuals in society who spark the birth of a counterculture.

“This season I am inspired by those who influence the rise of positive subculture. The poets. The thinkers. The rebels”, explains designer Kym Ellery. For Spring ’17, notorious Japanese girl gangs were the starting point for setting a defiant and wayward tone.

Reinventing the brand’s architectural DNA, new silhouettes are born. Volume shifts with tethered bubble sleeves, hourglass coats, fish-tail skirts and gently ruched dresses. Flares are anchored with chunky gold zips and elongated with speed stripes.

Masculinity and femininity come in equal doses; ruffles, ties and gathers soften utilitarian zips, whilst studs and bike-chain details punctuate garments with a tough take on luxury.

Details elevate the garments with contrast topstitching, metal brooches, glossy rings with coloured resin stones, custom orchid studs and the brand’s signature zig-zag embroidery. Intricate Jacaranda flowers and handlebar-headlight earrings hang asymmetrically.

The use of innovative fabrics escalates to new heights; from printed silk velvet to waxed gingham, appliqué daisy mesh, croc embossed leathers, melted sequin jacquard and technical gabardines – the ELLERY uniform continues to evolve unexpectedly.

The footwear collection speaks to the inspiration with Geta inspired platforms, treaded thigh-high biker boots and classic slides. Fabrications range from croc-embossed leathers to rich jacquards, suede and metal spotlight heels.

Darkly romantic, sophisticated and refined, the collection embodies the brand’s recognizable foundations, whilst marking a new path towards a rebellious future.

This season we looked at those who were mad enough to dare and bold enough to be different. The leaders who still seek revolt and revolution.

For ELLERY, Spring ’17 is about the constant search for strength, innovation and reinvention, as well as the ever-constant desire to empower women through design and to create clothes for women of excellence.
